This here Summer in Abandon mod was inspired by a seldom surfed right reef point and namesake wave here in Victoria. A fickle spot that rarely works over chest high and races off over a shallow button reef. I found the wave a blast to ride on my 5’7” S.I.A., but more often than not, I’d plant my feet forward on the board and high line over the shallow reef. With that I decided to start with a standard 5’7” S.I.A. and lop off 5” from the tail, cut in a shallow swallow and set the fins back. The result, a 5’2” twin fin of glossy goodness complete with chimed rail and back foot concave built for flow and down the line speed.

Featured Model: Summer in Abandon ‘Evo’ 5’2” x 20 5/8” x 2 3/8” with emergency red opaque resin dip, twin fiberglass keels and gloss polish finish.

The boys at Christian Surfers Victoria have a killer meeting space in Torquay complete with a new shaping bay for an after school ‘learn to shape’ program they’re kicking off called the Shaping Co-op. The idea has been in the works for over a year now, which made this first night in the bay a significant milestone for the program. We kicked up some foam dust, had some laughs at each others developing techniques and by the end of the night had ourselves a 5’6” Compactor inspired groveler to show for our efforts.

Fresh new COMPACTOR sporting Brazilian flag colored spray/Futures fin box combo for a little extra paddle mojo and lineup intensity.

On a related note, here’s some handy Portuguese surf vocabulary and general surf wisdom to keep in your back pocket…

Pegar um tubo é o ponto alto do dia do surfista. - Getting barreled is the highlight of a surfer’s day.

Manobras na crista da onda são estilosas. - Turns on the lip of the wave are stylish.

Na rasgada, o surfista desce de volta com a espuma. - In a re-entry, the surfer comes back down with the white.

and of course…

Para a batida, você quase sai da onda e, daí, vira rápido e volta. - For an off-the-lip, you almost exit the wave and then quickly turn around to get back.

This here PUSH is our second instalment for Tony Hawk’s annual Stand up for Skateparks charity event. Last year’s ‘McSqueeb’ custom was a great project and helped Tony’s Foundation to raise coin to build skateparks in under privileged neighborhoods across the US. We are stoked to partner up again this year & think the board came out insane. Big thanks to all involved in making this board happen.

In addition to it’s 80′s skate deck inspired outline and concave deck, this one features Tony’s signature ‘FullSkull’ birdhouse deck graphic and hand shaped keels from said signature skate deck. It is going on the auction block at Tony’s Stand Up for Skate Parks charity event in Beverly Hills this weekend. A rad board for a rad cause.

Check out www.tonyhawkfoundation.org to learn more about the Tony Hawk Foundation and their work to improve the lives of at risk youth. Rad!
